A farmer complains to Birbal that his horse ran off; could be worse says Birbal. The horse brought back herd of wild stallions. Birbal says: could be trouble. The man's boy rode the wild stallion, was thrown, broke his leg. Birbal says: could be good. Boys were recruited to go to the Aghan war, but this boy escaped. When you think about luck, you are looking too narrowly, Birbal explains; for example: when the house burns down, that's revenge on bedbugs.
Notes: Compare Parnell's Hermit poem, and the al-Khidr story in the Koran. For bedbugs in a house fire, see T0185.
