T0321. Nasruddin Goes to the Mountain

Nasruddin claims supernatural powers. People tell him to summon a mountain. He tries, but nothing happens. Then he starts walking towards the mountain. "I'm not stubborn," he says. "If it won't come to me, I'll go to it."

Notes: In Yorenc, the story is told about a tree, not a mountain. I'm not sure what the connection might be between this story and the saying, "If the mountain will not come to Muhammad, then Muhammad must go to the mountain." The English saying appears already in Francis Bacon and also in John Owen (more info).
