Nasruddin's wife says you know someone is dead when their feet and hands are cold. Nasruddin is chopping wood in winter, and realizes he must be dead. He lies down, as dead people do. Wolves eat his donkey. "Alas, if I had been alive, wolves would not have done that to my donkey!" he says.
