Ramu and Shamu argue about a mango tree on the boundary between their farms. Birbal sends a servant to both men to report news of thieves stealing mangos. Ramu is unmoved, but Shamu rushes off to fight the thieves. Next day, Birbal summons both, and proposes to divide the mangos, and the wood of the tree too. Ramu is pleased, but Shamu despairs and says to give the tree to Ramu as he cannot bear to see it cut down. In these two ways, Birbal has discovered the truth: the tree is truly Shamu's.
