Nasruddin and his wife agree that the first one to speak will feed the donkey. Nasruddin refuses to speak, even when a thief comes and ransacks the home, even taking Nasruddin's turban. The neighbor boy brings soup; Nasruddin points to his head, indicating the lost turban, and the boy pours soup on head. His wife comes home and shouts at him when she sees the mess. Nasruddin is triumphant, shouting, "You will feed the donkey!"
Notes: Not all versions contain the part about the boy with the soup; the vision of Nasruddin covered with soup just adds to the chaos of the house having been ransacked by a thief.
