Nasruddin's friends want to steal his shoes. They dare him to climb the tree. He takes off his shoes, but tucks them into his belt. "Leave them here," they say. He says, "I want to be prepared in case there's a road up there."
Notes: In other versions, Nasruddin says the boys need to learn to be prepared for thieves; that's why he's taking his shoes with him: "you never know when one might come by."
