T0203. Nasruddin's Wife Serves Hot Soup

Wife wants Nasruddin to scald himself, so she serves soup too hot. She forgets and eats the soup too; it makes her weep. "Why do you weep?" asks Nasruddin. She replies, "It's my mother's recipe; I remember her and it makes me weep." Nasruddin eats the soup, and he cries too. "Why are you crying?" his wife asks. "I'm crying that your mother died and left you alive."

Notes: In Ozcelik, it is Nasruddin serving soup to his son. Son says he is crying because he remembers dear mother; then when son asks Nasruddin why he's crying, he rebukes son's teasing: I'm crying because your mother was so kind, and she died and left such a son as you.
