Someone asks Nasruddin how to become wise. He explains that to become wise, listen carefully to what wise men tell you, and if you are speaking, listen carefully to what you are saying too.
Notes: Here is the story reported in Clark's "Nasreddin Hodja": "One day a man came to Hodja for advice on how to be a good person. Well, said Hodja, always listen to a person when they speak to you, and speak only to a person who will listen."
Here's my short version:
Someone asked Nasruddin, “What do you think is the best way to gain wisdom?”
“You have to listen carefully,” Nasruddin replied.
“But listen to what exactly?”
“Well, you should listen carefully to what wise people say; that's the first thing.”
“And what's the second thing?”
“When you are speaking, you need to listen carefully to what you are saying.”
