Joha is one of 12 disciples of a hoja. The hoja has a sheep which he would kill and cook each day, and then he could regenerate the lamb after. One day the hoja goes to tend a sick woman. Don't eat the sheep he says. They wait, and finally kill the sheep. Each boy helps, except Joha, who watches and laughs. The hoja curses them each based on what they did: people will laugh when they hear about you, Joha!
Notes: Fascinating variation on this legend appears in the "Life" chapter of Ozcelik's book, recounting how Nasruddin would not help to slaughter Seyyid Hayrani's lamb, but he laughed at those who did and ate the lamb; pp.20-21.
