Walking at night, Nasruddin hears a snore that scares him: a dervish. Dervish lets him share the space for the night; Nasruddin is thirsty, so he offers to fetch water and gives him a knife to defend himself. When he returns with water, Nasruddin attacks him as if he is a fiend. Fear: stronger than thirst, sanity, or property, and it brings suffering to all.
